The DIRT Project strives to promote healthy lifestyles by providing education to our community and our school children about the benefits of growing and using sustainably produced locally-grown food.
About The DIRT Project
The DIRT Project, a project of Springfield Urban Agriculture Coalition, installed ten school yard gardens within the Springfield R-XII school district while providing and teaching lesson plans to address core state educational standards by using the gardens to accompany what students are learning in the classroom in a fun, educational, hands-on environment. Aside from using the garden for multidisciplinary outlets and allowing for a wide array of learning styles, The DIRT Project encourages youth engagement, physical activity and allows students to take part in the production and consumption of locally grown and sustainably grown foods in their own communities.
